People of Ijaw celebrates J. P. Clark

Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, has described the
conferment of Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of
Letters) on Emeritus Professor, J.P Clark, by
the University of Lagos as a testament of
another remarkable milestone to one of the
greatest sons of Niger Delta.
In a congratulatory message by Comrade
Joseph Evah, on behalf of the Ijaw of Niger
Delta, he stated that Professor J.P. Clark is a
titan that will ever remain in the memory of the
ivory tower and beyond.

“We are proud that Nigeria’s first Professor of
English emerged from Ijawland and today
bestrides the world like a colossus.
“We are proud that the younger generation
inspired by the great works of Professor Clark
has produced other first class intellectuals to
prove to the world that the best brains are also
found in our homeland.”
The Ijaw urged the Federal Government to
name the National Arts Theater, Lagos after
Prof. Clark in honour of the “world renewed
literary saint.”
