Anambra 2017: 3 declare interest for IDP primary

THREE persons have declared their
interest to contest the governorship election in
Anambra State on the platform of the
Independent Democrat Party, IDP.
The state chairman of the party, Mazi Omife
Omife, who briefed newsmen in Awka yesterday
on the party’s preparations for the election,
which will take place later this year, however
did not name the governorship aspirants, even
as he assured that all the aspirants would be
given a level –playing ground during the party’s
primaries to ensure that the most acceptable
candidate would emerge.

According to him, many serving and former
Presidents’ General of town unions in Anambra
State have pitched their tent with the party in
readiness for the governorship election.
Omife, who was also a former President
General in the state, said that the party had
concluded arrangements to conduct congresses
at the ward, local government and state levels
later this month to elect credible people to run
the affairs of the party in the state.

The state congress, he explained, would be
attended by all national officers of the party,
as well as officials of the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, and
representatives of labour unions to ensure strict
adherence to the party guidelines.
He also said that plans were already afoot for
grass root mobilization and enlightenment of
the people of Anambra State to embrace ID,
which he described as the party for the
masses.
“We have perfected plans to enlighten the
Anambra State electorate on the manifesto of
ID, which contains adequate programmes that
will help liberate the people from years of
socio-economic bondage and exploitation by
the so-called big parties and unconscionable
politicians,” Omife said.
